The papers of Seymour Weiss document his long career as an analyst at the U.S. Department of State. Working closely with his counterparts in the Department of Defense, Weiss specialized in the fields of nuclear strategy and arms control. The bulk of his papers consist of correspondence, memoranda, photographs, and reports, among which are numerous studies of the strength of the Soviet military and analyses of treaties such as the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaties (SALT I and II).

Seymour Weiss was born in Bunkie, Louisiana. He was the owner and principal manager of the Roosevelt Hotel, 1931-1965 and a confidante of Huey Long, who made the Roosevelt Hotel his New Orleans headquarters. He was treasurer of the Long political organization's secret campaign fund and controlled federal relief funds in Louisiana during the Depression.
